Change is coming as our society shifts from a focus on mental health awareness to a focus on mental health ACTION! You have the power to change your life and the lives of others. Begin today. You can do so by taking action for your own mental health and supporting others.

The first-ever Mental Health Action Day is today: Thursday, May 20, 2021! MTV launched Mental Health Action Day, following the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the increase in mental health issues across the globe. The goal of Mental Health Action Day is to drive attention to free and accessible resources, such as the Promly app, in order to encourage people to take care of their emotional wellbeing. Promly is proud to be a partner in this day as we hope to bring attention to Mental Health Action Day, point you towards the help you need, offer support and resources, and encourage you to take action on mental health — whether for yourself, for your loved ones, or to advocate for systemic changes.

Take the time today (and everyday!) to take action for your own mental health. If you don’t know how to take action here are some ideas:

  • Facetime/text a friend

  • Go for a walk/hike

Do what feels right for you. It doesn’t have to be anything major. Even just taking a few minutes to meditate is the perfect first action to begin getting mental health support for yourself. For those already in practice, you can also use this day to begin to take action for the mental health of your loved ones or for our society. Reaching out to friends and family, checking in on them, and sharing mental health resources with them, like how to find a therapist, are great ways to make them feel loved and supported. To take action for our society, you can advocate for systemic changes to remove the stigma around mental health, whether it is through social media, a speaking engagement, volunteering for a local mental health organization, encouraging your local politicians to prioritize mental health, or writing an article for the Promly Garden. You can stand up for others who do not have a voice!

To me, Mental Health Action Day is a day to begin taking care of your mental health, even if in small ways. Today is just the beginning. Today could be the first day on your journey to mental health improvement! #MentalHealthAction.
